spade anchor blog destination reve corse

Every sailor dreams of heading off on an adventure with the wind in their sails to explore the world. But which destination lets you enjoy the peaceful scenery and sets your heart aflutter in the sea breeze? Should you stay in France or head for distant shores? That is the question!

It is called the Island of Beauty for a reason! Corsica offers a plethora of stunning landscapes. The turquoise blue sea tempts swimmers, the white cliffs of Bonifacio are intimidatingly massive and demand respect from all sailors, Cap Corse is famous for its nature and unspoilt beauty, and the white sandy beaches are utterly romantic. Corsica’s beauty and natural riches offer many sailing routes as well as a wide range of activities for you to enjoy in port. We have selected a few well-known and little-known not-to-be-missed activities and sights in Corsica to get you excited about exploring this island at your own pace.

Sailing Corsica from north to south

Let’s start in the north of Corsica. Located at the northernmost tip of Cap Corse, discover the little gem that is the Centuri seaside port. As only fishing vessels can access the port, you will need to hire a car to enjoy this authentic village where time appears to stand still. Slightly further south is the stunning Fiume Santu beach, nestled in the Gulf of Saint Florent and accessible by boat. You can also enjoy hikes in this slice of paradise, with the Sentier des Douaniers (customs officers’ path).

Saint Florent is a small village of around 1,600 inhabitants and is known as the Saint Tropez of Corsica. Several monuments from the Genoese period such as the Citadel, Tower of Mortella and Tower of Fornali are worth a detour.

Let’s continue south. Calvi is the next town worth visiting on your travels. This small town is brimming with charm and is famous for its citadel perched above the town. This is a commercial and traditional fishing port as well as a marina. The port is bustling in summer but quietens down in winter. Stroll the lanes in the old town and admire the views of the sea and mountains while savouring local dishes.

Drop anchor at Ajaccio

Everyone knows Ajaccio, the iconic port that beautifully blends the modern with the authentic! Enjoy its charms by dropping anchor in the small fishing port and marina of Tino-Rossi. If you want to try some water sports, weigh anchor and head to the new marina - Charles-Ornano - located to the north of the town at the Margonajo jetty.

Discover the most charismatic Corsican town - Bonifacio - and end your journey in style by exploring its white cliffs hiding the King of Aragon’s Staircase, its houses balanced atop the cliffs, its impressive and iconic Grain de Sable outcrop, and its wonderful little marina.

Corsica is a great destination to explore today, a paradise for recreational sailors and an unrivalled adventure.
